Pharmacies and Medical Centers
PHARMACIES IN CORDOBA
Students must go to a pharmacy for all medications, including aspirin, as they are not sold in drug stores or grocery stores.
Pharmacies in Spain are very accessible for everybody. Pharmacists are very knowledgeable and can offer advice and suggestions regarding over-the-counter medications. They cannot give prescriptions. People in Spain generally go first to a pharmacy to explain their symptoms and get over-the-counter medicine and only go to the doctor if a prescription is needed. So the pharmacy is a good first stop if a student is not feeling well. For the most part, one can find the same over-the-counter medicines in Spain as in the US. The brands might differ, but the effectiveness is the same.
Pharmacies are generally open Monday through Friday 9:30-14.00 and 5:00-8:30, Saturday morning 9.30-14.00. “Farmacias de guardia” are designated pharmacies that open 24hours and on the weekends on a rotating basis. And you can also find 12hours pharmacies. See the list of pharmacies above.
